Data modelling and metadata

Metadata forms the backbone of every digital service. Researchers would find it difficult, if not impossible, to use archives, libraries and museums without the metadata that describes and classifies each object. Metadata and metadata standards play a decisive role, for example, when perusing the → Virtual Research Room or processing cross-collection search queries. Various case studies at the MWW are interconnected via metadata, and the collections are indexed and made accessible through metadata. In order to create an interoperable data pool from the heterogeneous collections managed by the participating institutions of the MWW, we created a special metadata format called MMM (MWW Metadata Model). This common metadata format is used productively in processing cross-collection search queries (a further development of the DARIAH Generic Search).
